The Wavestation lineup consisted of four models: the Wavestation and Wavestation EX keyboards, and the Wavestation A/D and Wavestation SR rackmount sound modules. Korg added to this a second break-through form of synthesis: wave sequencing, by which short segments of sampled audio waveforms could be played one after the other and cross-faded into each other for some complex. Plus the old VST and Gadget version both support importing Wavestation sysex. The patches can only be used in Wavestation VST on Mac from Gadget, not the Legacy version above.
It sports audio inputs to basically use external oscillators in the wave sequences of the synth engine, but it can also be used as an effects box for reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, distortion, phaser, Leslie rotator, EQ, pitchshifter, gate limiter, and vocoder applications as well. Wavestation on iOS is an amazing editor for making new patches. Im using AUtosampler in logic to sample a patch in my Korg Wavestation. Keyboard Magazine readers gave the Wavestation its "Hardware Innovation of the Year" award, and in 1995 Keyboard listed it as one of the "20 Instruments that Shook the World." The Wavestation incorporated the 2-dimensional vector joystick of the ProphetVS which allowed the user to alter and animate sounds. The Wavestation A/D is definitely worth buying. Auto Sampled External Synth wont play any sound when loaded in Sampler.
